Casimir CELDT Testing

July 28, 2008
All English Learners must be tested on the state test called the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). The CELDT assesses students’ English proficiency. All students receive an individual score for the four sub tests: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In addition, there is an overall score, which aides in determining the student’s ELL proficiency level. Results are reported to parents and teachers. This test is state mandated and must be administered every year until the student is redesignated as Fluent English Proficient (FEP). In order for the school to appropriately place children in their classes and minimize the disruption of learning, it is necessary for children designated ELL to take the annual CELDT prior to receiving a class schedule for the fall. Casimir has scheduled testing to take place on the following dates.
Monday August 18 at 12:30 or Friday August 22 at 8:30.
If your child need to take the test you should have already received a letter informing you of the date and time. If you did not receive a letter your child does not need to take the test. Testing for students is approximately 3 hours, depending on the student’s language fluency. The test will take place at the following location:
Casimir Middle School (room 13 or 15)
17220 Casimir Avenue
Torrance CA, 90278
If you have any questions about the CELDT, please call the school office at:
